The commitment of funds to a business, whether provided by an active or passive investor, is known as a business investment.  Active investors provide start-up capital, franchising capital, or pre-IPO funds to the company.  The purchase of stocks and bonds as a passive investor is a highly sought after business investment opportunity.

Making business investment decisions largely depends on the rate of return, or profit, of the business venture.  The ratio of money gained to the amount of funds invested is referred to as the return on investment (ROI).  Inflation plays an important role on the value of money, which means that the time value must be considered.  A stream of income can be gained through passive investing in the form of dividends and interest.

There are several business investment opportunities both on the international and domestic level.  The World Bank Group is an international company that provides billions of dollars every year to business development projects in developing countries.  Other international groups include the International Bank for Rural Development (IBRD), International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and European Investment Bank (EIB).

Investment companies are dedicated to hold securities of other companies for investment purposes.  Those who invest in a company generally share profits and losses.  Additionally, the company is evaluated based on the performance of the securities.  There are different types of investment companies including management investment companies, such as open-end and closed-end companies; Unit Investment Trust (UITs); Exchange-Traded Funds; Hedge Funds; and Face Amount Certificates.  There are also small business investment opportunities targeted towards small businesses only.

Businesses can take advantage of investment advisors for investment counseling and recommendations.  Advisors offer asset management services and directly manage the assets.  These individuals play a significant role in the future financial growth of companies, therefore making a decision on the right advisor is a critical one.  There are all sorts of business investment opportunities in a variety of industries.  Certain investors are attracted to certain companies based on the industry they are in as well as expected future growth.
